Dry cleaning oakland services are a great way to keep your clothing looking its best and prolonging its life. They also help you save time and money as well as avoid damaging your bedding, shoes and other personal belongings.
Should you tip for wash and fold laundry?
Whether you’re looking for a traditional dry cleaner or an app-based on-demand laundry service, here are the best dry cleaning options in Oakland and throughout Alameda County.
Washio
In 2013, a smartphone app-based laundry and dry cleaning service called Washio began serving San Francisco clients. Now it’s expanded to Oakland, Alameda, Emeryville, Piedmont and Albany.
The company’s pricing is comparable to the traditional Laundromat, but its pick-up and delivery times are only evenings. Customers can order up to a week’s worth of laundry at a time, and only pick it up and take it home when they’re ready to do so.
Rinse
Rinse, a similar on-demand laundry service, has been around since 2013 but has yet to expand in the East Bay. The startup, which is based in Santa Monica, Calif., offers slightly higher prices and fewer pick-up and delivery hours than Washio.
G.F. Thomas Dyeing and Cleaning Works
In the 1850s, Gustaf Francois Thomas emigrated from France to California and opened a dyeing and scouring business. He eventually stopped scrubbing and started dry-cleaning clothes with chemicals that arrived in America from his native land.
The Thomas family has been running the store, which was previously on Washington Street, for four generations. Today, Thomas’ sons, Emile and Jacques, run it with the help of their mother and sister. It still has a dry-cleaning plant beneath the building. And though the family no longer owns the building, it has been temporarily housed in a Victorian house on 14th Street.
